Description
Beldam is an old word meaning hag or witch but in present day has become the name of a mystical creature that resides in an ‘other’ world which she can mostly bend to her will. They are rarely ever detected because it is so unusual that you meet one and escape but can generally be detected by child disappearances in a building or patch of woods over a few hundred or, on occasion, thousand years. One such sighting was recorded by Neil Gaiman in his book, Coraline where a Beldam who goes by the name of the Other Mother has been stealing people and keeping them in a cut off reality for an incredibly long time. This practice of keeping children and torturing their souls by stealing their true hearts has had many speculations over its purpose and the most common theory is that doing so is what maintains their power. |
